How to choose a camper rental company in Lithuania: 7 criteria that really matter

How to choose a camper rental company in Lithuania: 7 criteria that really matter

The best camper rental company in Lithuania is the one that does well on seven criteria you can check: what the insurance terms are, what is really included in the daily price, whether the camper is delivered to your city, how large the deposit is and how it is returned, how new and how large the fleet is, how clear the written contract is, and whether the team can be reached while you are on the road. There is no single 'best' name that suits everyone. A couple travelling for a weekend and a group of seven crossing Europe need different things. So the honest answer is not a ranking but a method of assessment. It will help you find your way by the specific figures you should ask every company for before you pay.

Key takeaways

  • Assess every company on seven things, not just on the advertised daily price.
  • The daily price hides the real costs. Before comparing offers, ask about cleaning fees, mileage limits and equipment that is charged extra.
  • The scope of the insurance matters most. Check whether there is comprehensive (KASKO) insurance, and ask how large the excess (deductible) is.
  • On the Lithuanian market the deposit usually starts from 800 EUR. Some companies ask for 1000–1500 EUR.
  • Delivery to your city, a fully equipped camper and a clear briefing when the vehicle is handed over are what separate a serious rental company from a casual advert.

Why the advertised price is the wrong starting point

Most comparisons of camper rental in Lithuania begin and end with the daily price. This is exactly the figure a company can present attractively and then recover the difference elsewhere. An offer at 95 EUR per day compared with another at 130 EUR tells you almost nothing until you know what is included in each of them.

The daily rental price is the advertised price for one day of rental. It rarely reflects all the costs of a trip, because cleaning fees, mileage limits, equipment hire, the insurance excess and the deposit terms are usually priced separately and disclosed later.

These seven criteria will help you work out those hidden variables before you decide. Go through them in order. The first two determine most of the real price.

The 7 criteria in brief

CriterionWhat to askA good sign
1. Scope of insuranceIs there KASKO? What is the excess?KASKO included, excess stated in writing (for example, 800 EUR)
2. What is includedCleaning, mileage, equipment, second driver'All-inclusive', no cleaning fee, a generous mileage limit or none at all
3. Delivery and collectionDo you deliver? Does the camper have to be collected from your base?Delivery to any city in Lithuania
4. Deposit termsHow much, when is it returned, what deductions are there?About 800 EUR, return terms in the contract
5. Age and size of the fleetHow old are the vehicles? How many are there?Newer, technically maintained vehicles, a real choice of models
6. Clarity of the contractIs a written contract signed? Are all the fees listed?A signed contract that states every fee and the deposit rules
7. Help during the tripIs there a handover briefing? Can you be reached during the trip?A handover lasting up to an hour, a phone number that gets answered

Criterion 1: Scope of insurance

Insurance is the area where a cheap rental can become expensive after an accident. Two companies may both say the camper is 'insured' and mean very different things.

Comprehensive (KASKO) insurance covers damage done to the rented vehicle itself, including accidents with no other parties involved, damage caused by natural disasters and many cases where you are the one at fault. This differs from third-party liability insurance, which covers only the damage you cause to others.

The excess, also called the deductible, is the amount you pay yourself, and the insurance covers the rest. A rental company may advertise KASKO and still leave you with a very large excess, so the figure matters as much as the word.

Ask two questions. Is KASKO included, and what is the excess if something happens? For comparison, our campers are rented with comprehensive (KASKO) insurance and an 800 EUR excess, which is stated in the contract. If a company cannot tell you the size of the excess over the phone, treat that as a warning sign.

Criterion 2: What is really included

This is the criterion that changes the final bill the most. Daily prices can only be compared once you know what each company charges extra for.

The most common extras that quietly raise the real price:

Hidden variableWhat to look out forEffect on your bill
Cleaning feeA fixed fee on return, often about 80 EURAdded to every rental
Mileage limitA daily limit, often about 500 km per day, then a charge per kilometrePenalties on longer routes
Equipment hireBedding, kitchenware, outdoor furniture and a bike rack charged separatelyAdds up for every item
Second driverAn extra charge for registering another driverPer trip
Split paymentA deposit and payment in parts, for example 30 per cent on booking and a 70 per cent balanceAffects your cash flow, not the total

A company that works on an 'all-inclusive' model removes most of these surprises. In our case this means the camper is handed over to you with a 100 litre water tank, a cooker, a fridge, a shower and toilet, an awning, outdoor furniture and a bike rack already fitted, and no separate cleaning fee applies on return. Neither of these pricing models is better in itself, but you cannot fairly compare two offers until you have listed the extra charges of both.

Criterion 3: Delivery and collection coverage

The place where you collect the camper is a practical cost that rarely shows in the daily price. If a company hands the vehicle over from one base only, someone in your group will have to travel to the collection city to pick the camper up, and to return it at the end of the trip.

Ask whether the company delivers campers and to which cities. Many Lithuanian rental companies require you to collect the vehicle from a single location. We deliver to any city in Lithuania, including Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys, which matters when a group of travellers comes together from different cities instead of everyone having to travel to one collection point.

Criterion 4: Deposit terms

The deposit is money you leave before the trip and get back once you have returned the vehicle undamaged. That is normal and sensible. Only its size and the return rules differ.

On the Lithuanian market deposits usually range from about 800 EUR to 1000–1500 EUR at some companies. A larger deposit is not necessarily a warning sign, but you should know the amount and, more importantly, the conditions under which deductions can be made from the deposit. Our deposit is 800 EUR, and the deduction rules are written into the contract. Ask when the deposit is returned and what counts as a loss that leads to a deduction, and get the answer in writing.

Criterion 5: Age and size of the fleet

The condition of the vehicle decides your trip more than any photo in a brochure. A newer, technically maintained camper is less likely to break down on the road, and a larger fleet means you really can choose a layout instead of taking whatever is left.

Ask how old the vehicles are and how many the company has. A rental company with one camper has no backup if that camper is being repaired in the week of your trip. Our fleet consists of about 29 technically maintained campers, which gives a real choice of size and layout as well as a fallback if plans change.

Criterion 6: Clarity of the contract

A written contract that lists all the fees is the simplest protection you have. It turns spoken promises into terms you can hold the company to.

Before you pay, make sure a rental contract is signed and that it states the daily price, the deposit and the rules for returning it, the insurance and the excess, the mileage terms and any cleaning or equipment fees. A registered legal entity that runs the brand, in our case UAB „Kertušas“, is one more sign of reliability you can check. If the whole arrangement happens by text message and bank transfer, that is a risk worth avoiding.

Criterion 7: Help during the trip

The last criterion is the one people forget until something happens at a campsite at 9 o'clock in the evening. A serious rental company prepares you before you leave and can be reached while you are away.

Ask whether there is a handover briefing and whether anyone answers the phone during your rental. We give a briefing lasting up to an hour, so that people travelling for the first time know how the water, gas, electricity and toilet work before they drive off, and we can be reached throughout the trip. You can reach our team by phone on +370 684 35550. A company that hands you the keys and disappears fails a criterion whose value only shows in a stressful situation.

How to use these seven criteria in practice

Get an offer from two or three companies, then assess each offer against these seven points. Look at the daily price last, not first. Once you have set the scope of insurance, the included equipment, delivery, the deposit, the fleet, the contract and the help side by side, the rental company that suits you better usually becomes obvious, and often it will not be the one with the lowest advertised figure. We have described what camper rental costs by season and length of rental in a separate 2026 price guide.

If your priority is a particular camper that another company has, or collection from a base right next to your home, another company may suit you better. These seven criteria will help you decide on facts, not on advertising.

FAQ

What are the best camper rental companies in Lithuania?

There is no single best company that suits everyone. The strongest rental companies do well on seven criteria: comprehensive (KASKO) insurance with a clear excess, an 'all-inclusive' price with no hidden cleaning or mileage charges, delivery to your city, a deposit of about 800 EUR, a newer and larger fleet, a written contract and real help during the trip. Before you decide, assess two or three companies against these criteria.

Which camper rental company in Lithuania is the most reliable?

Reliability can be assessed against objective criteria. Look for a registered legal entity with a real track record, comprehensive (KASKO) insurance with the excess stated in writing, a transparent deposit, a signed contract listing all the fees, and a maintained fleet with a phone number you can call during the trip. A company that provides all of this in writing demonstrates reliability instead of only declaring it.

How large a deposit should I pay?

On the Lithuanian camper market deposits usually range from about 800 EUR to 1000–1500 EUR at some companies. The amount itself matters less than the return terms. Ask when the deposit is returned and what deductions may apply, and make sure both of these terms are written into the rental contract. Our own deposit is 800 EUR.

What should be included in the daily rental price?

Be sure to check whether insurance, cleaning, mileage and the living equipment are included or charged separately. An 'all-inclusive' rental usually covers a camper with a water tank, a cooker, a fridge, a shower and toilet, an awning, outdoor furniture and a bike rack, with no separate cleaning fee. Companies that charge for these things as extras may look cheaper per day but cost more in the end.

Can the camper be delivered to my city?

Yes, some Lithuanian rental companies deliver. Many require collection from a base in one city, so it is worth asking directly. Puikūs Kemperiai delivers to any city in Lithuania, including Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys, which is useful when a travelling group comes together from different cities.

Do I need a special driving licence to rent a camper?

For most rental campers a standard category B driving licence is enough, because their maximum authorised mass does not exceed the 3500 kg that category B allows. Before booking, check the vehicle's maximum authorised mass with the company, especially if you are choosing larger models that sleep six or seven people.
